About Master Spring | May 14, 2013
Master Spring & Wire Form Co., Inc. is dedicated to serving you by providing high quality, custom springs and wire forms. In keeping with this mission, we work to ensure that your springs or wire forms match certain regulatory directives – including:
To help customers understand where our industry stands on these directives, we are providing you with the following information to assist you in meeting your regulatory needs.
RoHS (European Directive 2002/95/EC on Restriction of the Use of Certain Hazardous Substances) is European legislation that restricts the levels of Lead, Mercury, Cadmium, Hexavalent Chromium, Polybrominated Biphenyls (PBB) and Polybrominated Diphenyl Ethers (PBDE)
The products Master Spring supplies are in full compliance of the RoHS directive with the exception of parts manufactured out of the following material:
REACH (Regulation on Registration, Evaluation, Authorization and Restriction of Chemicals) refers to European Union Regulation No 1907/2006. The aim of REACH is to ensure a high level of protection of human health and the environment from the risks that can be posed by chemicals.
According to the regulation, the products that we manufacture are considered “articles” and as such are not required to be registered. We have reviewed the current listing of “SVHC’s” and have determined that none of the items on the list are present on or in the products we supply.
DFARS 252.225-7014, Alt.1 prohibits prime government contractors and all suppliers at every tier from incorporating “specialty metals” (as defined in the clause) into military parts, components and/or end item deliverables unless the specialty metals meet one of the qualifying criteria:
Please note: Based on the definition of “specialty metals”, as given in DFARS 252.225-7014, Music Wire Hard Drawn MB, and Oil Tempered MB spring wire are excluded from this requirement.
However, Stainless Steel 301, Stainless Steel 302, Stainless Steel 316, Stainless Steel 17-7, and Oil Tempered Chrome Silicon are considered “specialty metals” (are not excluded) and therefore may be restricted for use under DFARS 252.225-7014.
If you ever need your product to meet any kind of compliance or regulation, let us know as soon as possible. The ideal time would be at the time the part is quoted. Compliance to any of these standards is equally important as the material type or quantity needed. Process determination is not just about bending wire. We need to know if the part has a special finish, quality requirement, packaging specification or regulatory concern. Conveying all important information helps us submit a thorough quotation and avoid purchase order changes down the line. After all, we want buying springs and wire forms from us to be as fast and easy as possible. Incomplete or inadequate requirements only stall production and eat up lead-time.
